Without God, everything is hopeless. With God, everything is hopeful.

Learning From God's Word

“Lord, you are the God who saves me” (Psalm 88:1).

This is something we should never forget. Sadly, it’s not something that we, always, remember. We look at our circumstances, and we take our eyes off the Lord. It is not easy for us to keep our eyes on the Lord. Often, we are tempted to turn away from the Lord. We are tempted to go back to the world. These are the times when we need to let the Word of God speak to our hearts, and call us back to a closer walk with God. A closer walk with God – this is something that’s beyond us. Does this mean that we have to say “Our situation is hopeless”? In one sense, that’s exactly what it does mean – Without God, everything is hopeless. Happily, this is not the only thing we can say about our situation…

We fail – in our love for God. He never fails – in his love for us.

Learning From God's Word

“In God we make our boast all day long, and we will praise your name for ever” (Psalm 44:8).

We don’t, always, feel like this. Our feelings pull us here, there and everywhere. Often, we don’t feel like praising God. It’s not easy to keep on praising God. What are we to do when it seems like everything’s going wrong in our world? Let us remember this that God loves us. Does God stop loving us when the going gets tough? No. He doesn’t. He keeps on loving us. We fail – in our love for him. He never fails – in his love for us. How do we know that God loves us? – Jesus died for us. At the cross we see the dying love of Jesus. When we move on, from the cross to Jesus’ resurrection, we see that love is undying love. Undying love – let…

The Lord is great. He’s our great Saviour.

Learning From God's Word

“May all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who long for your saving help always say, ‘The Lord is great!’” (Psalm 70:4).

In times of trouble, we need to lift up our eye and look to the Lord. When we’re feeling low, this is exactly the thing that we cannot do. We need to be lifted up by the Lord. What we cannot do for ourselves, the Lord does for us. When the Lord lifts us up, we do not say, “I have pulled myself together.” We say, “The Lord is great.” What a great Saviour we have! Let us rejoice and be glad in him.

The Vine

Learning From God's Word

“You transplanted a vine from Egypt. You drove out the nations and planted it. You cleared the ground for it, and it took root and filled the land” (Psalm 80:8-9).
When we read here about a “vine”, we should remember that Jesus said, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). We read here that the vine “filled the land.” Let us pray for our land – “Shine, Jesus, shine. Fill this land with the Father’s glory.”

The forgiveness of sins: what a tremendous blessing this is!

Psalms 31:1-24- ‘Into Thy hand, I commit my spirit’(5). These words were spoken by Christ as, in death, He gave Himself for our sins (Luke 23:46). For Christ, there was suffering - ‘I am the scorn of all my adversaries’(11). His suffering was followed by rejoicing, the joy of the resurrection - ‘I will be …

Learning From God's Word

“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12).

May God teach us to live our life in the light of eternity.

“What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”— the things God has prepared for those who love him — 10 these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit” (1 Corinthians 2:9-10).

“We will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words” (1 Thessalonians 4:17-18).

Here, on earth, our life is full of highs and lows, happy times and sad times. May the Lord help us to look above all these things – and catch a glimpse of the eternal glory he is preparing for us. In an attitude of gratitude, let us live our life to please him and give glory to him.

Larger than life

Learning From God's Word

“Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you” (Psalm 63:3).

What a great blessing it is to be alive!

How much greater it is to know that we are loved by the Lord!

The meaning, purpose and direction of our life on earth becomes clearer to us, when we see our life in the light of the bigger picture – we are loved by the Lord.

We can be glad that we’re alive without really understanding what our life on earth is all about.

How much greater is our joy when we’re learning to look beyond our life on earth and catch a glimpse of the God, who is larger than our life on earth – the God of our eternal salvation.

The true and lasting joy of life comes to us when we know that we’re not alone in this world. The Lord is with us…

After we leave the place of worship, let us keep on worshipping the Lord.

Psalms 72:1-20- Read the words - ‘His Name’ shall ‘endure for ever’(17) - and think of Christ. His Name is ‘the Name above all other names’. He is ‘the King of kings and Lord of lords’(Philippians 2:9-11; Revelation 19:16). Read the words - ‘all nations call Him blessed’(17) - , and think of Christ. ‘From …

Out of Satan’s darkness, into the light of the Lord

How do we get from this - "Lord, you are the God who saves me" (Psalm 88:1) - to this - "darkness is my closest friend" (Psalm 88:18)? - "An enemy has done this" (Matthew 13:28). God's people are under constant attack - from Satan, the enemy of God and his people. Satan is a …
